The designated operator of Switzerland, Swiss Post, asks us to inform other Union member countries and their designated operators that, as part of measures to minimize the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Swiss Government, Swiss Post has had to change its delivery process for all items requiring signature on delivery.
With effect from 16 March 2020, letter-post, parcel-post and EMS items requiring signature on delivery will not be signed for by the recipient, for health and safety reasons. For such items, in place of the recipient’s signature, the delivery agent will enter a code in the signature field of the handheld device. This temporary measure will apply from 16 March 2020 until further notice.
As a result, Swiss Post is no longer able to guarantee inbound and outbound mail standards, and is therefore invoking a situation of force majeure with regard to quality of service and remuneration for all categories of mail item (letter-post, parcel-post and EMS items) until further notice.
Swiss Post thanks all Union member countries and their designated operators for their understanding. It will update them of any relevant changes via EmIS.
